December 5, 2011— DAY 5: I have this love/hate relationship with going to the gym. I love getting into shape and the health benefits of working out. But, I hate the pain that goes along with it. Working out is hard and is painful. Exercise is about tearing down the muscle tissue and rebuilding it. In some cases it is about replacing fat with muscle. Habits are that way. You have to replace the bad habit with a good habit. Sometimes admitting you have a bad habit is hard enough but then having to address the problem is a totally different issue.
Day 1 we looked at the things you tolerate; Day 2 Procrastination; Day 3 we examined the things you are willing to do; and yesterday we did a Risk/Reward Assessment.
Today I would like to look over the things you have written in the past few days and select between one and three small goals you would like to work on. A goal is not about eating the elephant in one bite but a series of small steps that lead to a wonderful destination. The goal should be specific, measurable actionable, realistic, actionable, timed.
Start writing down some goals today. These are not resolutions – these are goals to a better future and a better you. If you don’t know where to start, look at those things you are tolerating and procrastinating over. That might be a great launching point.
